Haigazian University – Beirut/Lebanon and the Amman Baptist School – Amman/Jordan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) seeking to establish agreements of cooperation for the interchange of educational and professional development.
The signing of the MOU – led by the Haigazian University President, Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian and the Baptist Institutions of Jordan Board of Trustees’ Chairperson, Mr. Emad Gammoh – took place on Wednesday 17 January, 2018, in the premises of the Amman Baptist School in Amman – Jordan, under the patronage of Jordan’s Minister of Education, in the presence of numerous official guests, teachers, academicians and community representatives, including the Education Ministry’s Secretary General for Administrative Affairs, Mr. Sami Salaitah, and the General Secretary of the Association of Evangelical Schools in Lebanon and founder of SKILD (Smart Kids with Individual Learning Differences) Dr. Nabil Costa.
Through this MOU, both institutions will develop and maintain long-term cooperation in order to achieve the best outcomes in the educational fields. Among the scope of services, as stated by President Haidostian at the signing ceremony, Haigazian University will provide instructors to secure educational and professional development, Teaching Diploma, graduate and undergraduate studies to qualified candidates, as well as scholarships to outstanding students, whereas the ABS will encourage its students to consider Haigazian University as their choice in pursuing higher education, as well as provide research, training and internship opportunities for Haigazian graduates.
It is worth noting that this MOU was inaugurated with a one-week intensive in-service Professional Development course to 170 teachers, coordinators and directors of the ABS, diligently conducted by four Haigazian University faculty members of the Education Department: Dr. Hagop Yacoubian, Dr. Hanine Hout, Dr. Farah El Zein and Ms. Shaghig Hudaverdian. The course entitled “Fundamentals of Teaching and Learning”, focused on the components of planning, instruction and assessment, as well as on student characteristics and accommodating students with special needs in regular classrooms.
During their visit to Jordan, President Haidostian and Dr. Costa held meetings with a number of institutions and personalities, including the director and staff of the Queen Rania Teaching Academy.
